Report on Sustainable Transport in China China Academy of Transportation Sciences PrefaceThe second United Nations Global Sustainable Transport Conference will be held in Beijing from October 14 to 16,2021.Report on Sustainable Trans-port in China is intended to review Chinas progress in sustainable transport and share its practices.Focusing on Chinas new development philosophy for innovative,coordi-nated,green,open,and shared development,this Report presents Chinas ini-tiatives and activities focusing on the“5 Ps”that shape the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development people,planet,prosperity,peace and partnership.It underscores Chinas commitment to implementing the 2030 Agenda,and introduces new ideas on sustainable development.This Report aims to make a useful contribution to this conference.The Report consists of seven chapters.The first provides an overall per-spective on sustainable transport in China and outlines its general approach.The second to sixth chapters detail the progress China has made in sustainable transport and the results that have been achieved based on the five elements of Chinas new development philosophy,and the seventh chapter focuses on transport safety.The chapters document in turn the coordinated development of integrated transport,innovation-driven transport development,transition to green and low-carbon transport,opening-up and exchanges&cooperation,transport shared by all and life-first safe transport.This Report would not be possible without the valuable advice and sup-port of the Ministry of Transport,relevant government departments,local transport authorities,research institutes,enterprises and experts.We would like to express our warmest thanks for their contributions.CONTENTSChapter 1 Overview 1I.Sustainable Transport in China:History and Progress 2II.General Approach to Sustainable Transport in China 11Chapter 2 Coordinated and Integrated Transport Development 15I.Improving the Integrated Transport Infrastructure Network 15I
